The Hugpong ng Pagbabago headed by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte strongly denounced the removal of Davao City 3rd District Representative Isidro Ungab from the chairmanship of the House Appropriations Committee.

In a released statement Tuesday, March 3, the “conveners of Hugpong ng Pagbabago” strongly condemned the removal of Ungab.

“For HNP, the ouster of Ungab was grossly unacceptable as it is disadvantageous to the Duterte administration’s reform agenda for the Filipino people and the country. We laud him for being a good soldier of President Rodrigo Duterte and for doing his job with pride and principle,” the statement read.

In his reaction, Rep. Ungab thanked his party for the support. Ungab said that he already accepted his fate and that he will continue performing his mandate as representative of the people of Davao City.

I thank my party HNP for their statement of support. As I have said yesterday, the truth will always prevail. I am guided by my conscience, and I will stand by my style in managing the budget to ensure that the projects, plans and programs of the Duterte administration will succeed,” Ungab said.

Another congressman who requested anonymity said that the group of House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano is hell bent on having a full control of the 2021 budget thus the replacement of Rep. Ungab who is a known Duterte ally.

When reminded of the earlier term-sharing agreement wherein Speaker Cayetano is set to be replaced as House Speaker by Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco come October this year, the solon said they suspect that Cayetano would not honor the term-sharing agreement.

Information from several sources showed that Rep. Velasco met with Mayor Sara Duterte over the weekend.
