ALABEL, Sarangani – Two members of the New People’s Army were killed on January 29 in an encounter between the troops of the 73rd Infantry Battalion and some 10 members of the “weakened Guerrilla Front TALA, Far South Mindanao Region in the border of barangay Kinam and barangay Datal Bukay in Malapatan,” according to 1Lt. Jessie Hinampas, battalion Civil-Military Operations officer.
One of the fatalities was identified as a certain “Joe” while the other’s identity was still unknown.
1Lt. Hinampas said the military received information from concerned residents in the area regarding the presence of armed communist terrorists.
Right then, the troops were given instructions to conduct an operation. The battle between the two groups lasted for more than an hour which ended up the rebels to withdraw.
Hinampas disclosed that there were no casualties on the government side. He also said that the provincial government and the local government of Malapatan will provide assistance for a decent burial for the killed rebels. (Jimmy Toribio – Jori Mae Samillano/SARANGANI COMMUNICATIONS SERVICE)
