The City of Mati LGU is fully enforcing its measures to prevent the entry of the African Swine Fever in the city after the national government declared an outbreak.

In a meeting by Task Force Bantay Karne Tuesday, September 17, City Veterinarian Marites Erispe said one of the strict measures they will enforce is the prohibition of transport of meat products thru vans, buses, and other vehicles other than refrigerated meat delivery trucks.

She said that all fresh meat products passing thru the TF Bantay Karne checkpoints would be thoroughly screened. All those who fail the strict screening would be confiscated or prevented from entering the city.

Erispe said this is to ensure that ASF virus would not enter the city and infect the swine industry in the City of Mati.

Aside from blocking of entry, authorities also appealed to hog raisers to avoid swill-feeding (feeding of food scraps to pigs).

This is because, ASF virus is known to stay in meat products as long as 1000 days and could even survive extreme heat.Earlier on, City of Mati Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat reconstituted TF Bantay Karne with its members holding its first meeting Tuesday. (CIO MATI)
