The incoming House Speaker will be made known by June 28 or 72 hours before members of the 18th Congress will elect their leader.
Incoming Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte said the decision was made during a dinner he tendered for the incoming congressmen in Malacanang Tuesday evening, June 18.
President Rodrigo Duterte attended the dinner later in the evening and hobnobbed with the attending lawmakers.
Among those in attendance was Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco who is one of the strong contender in the speaker race.
Another strong contender is comebacking Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez who was not in Tuesday’s dinner party but was last seen together with President Duterte when he visited the NAIA Terminal 2 last week.
Other known contender is another comebacking Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano of Taguig who recently opened the idea of sharing terms with Velasco.
The young Duterte thanked the Presidential Management Staff and Rep. Velasco for helping him organize the dinner party.
Among those who attended the dinner party were members of the partylist group who will reportedly be voting as one bloc. There are a total of 54 seats in the 18th Congress allocated to the partylist groups.
