Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte belatedly denied a 2016 report of Rappler on a statement made by President Rodrigo Duterte regarding properties and vehicles donated by international evangelist Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy to the Dutertes.
In the said report, President Duterte was quoted as saying that Quiboloy gave Duterte a Nissan Safari and Ford Expedition years ago. Duterte tried to return the Expedition but said his daughter, Sara, wanted to keep it.
“Binalik ko. Tapos ito si Inday nagwala kasi gusto niya. Eh saan ka magkuha ng pang-gasolina? Para kang buang diyan,” Duterte reportedly said.
In a released statement Monday, June 17, Mayor Duterte categorically denied the 2016 Rappler story.
“This incident never happened. I never saw an Expedition vehicle allegedly given by Pastor Quiboloy. PRRD may have referred to another person with Inday as a name or he incorrectly remembered events. Pehaps, the story told by PRD, the time when he was still Mayor of Davao in May 2016, was just another one of his jokes, which he usually peddles to the media,” the mayor said.
“The problem was it went unchecked and was taken by the media hook, line, and sinker. It was reported as truth. The story was clearly a journalistic mishap and it was unfair and injurious to me as someone named in the article, something which would have been avoided had the writer conducted a simple process of verification,” she added.
Aside from vehicles, President Duterte also admitted that Quiboloy, the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, has given him 3 properties in Woodridge Park, Ma-a, Davao City.
