Bong Go says he won’t violate law to do friends a favor

BACOLOD CITY — Senator-elect Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has made it clear that he will not violate the law to do friends a favor.

“Ako naman ay tutulong naman po sa mga kaibigan lalo’t gusto mag-negosyo ng legal at maayos. Pero hindi ko po babaluktutin ang batas para tulungan po, kahit na magkaibigan tayo. Kahit nakatulong ka sa akin nung eleksyon (I will help friends who want to do business legally. But I will not violate the law to do them a favor, even the ones who have helped me during the elections),” said President Rodrigo Duterte’s former aide.

Go, who visited the fire victims of Barangay 2 at Andres Bonifacio Elementary School Gymnasium here on Sunday afternoon, said that his and the President’s version of politics doesn’t work that way.

“Hindi po ganun ang pamumulitika namin ni Pangulong Duterte,” he added.

Go, who placed third in the Senate race behind incumbents Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe in the May 13 elections, said those who contributed to his campaign fund should never expect help from him if they intend to do something illegal.

“Kami parati ni Pangulong Duterte gawain namin (The President and I always want) to do what is right at pino-proteksyonan ang interes ng Pilipino at interes ng gobyerno (to protect the interest of the Filipinos and that of the government),” he stressed.

Based on the Statement of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) he submitted to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Go was among the biggest spenders in the senatorial elections.

He received PHP162.035 million in cash and in-kind contributions and spent PHP161.42 million in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Go said he wants to go around the country to listen to the concerns of Filipinos and help bring solutions to their problems.

He urged concerned government agencies to speed up the release of assistance to the 247 fire-affected families in this city that already received initial relief goods from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Western Visayas and from the city government. (PNA)
