Bong Go assures better working relationship between Senate and Palace

Newly elected Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go promised to help his colleagues in the Senate improve the working relationship between the Executive and Legislative branches of government as he pursues measures to help bring in genuine positive change to the country.

He vowed to maintain the independence of the Senate but clarified that he can also be the bridge of the Senate to the Executive branch when necessary, ensuring that the top priority legislative agenda of the Duterte Administration are translated to laws benefiting the Filipino people.

Go narrated in his recent interviews.

Go has been in public service working with President Duterte for 21 years. Prior to running for a senate seat in the 2019 election, Go served as Special Assistant to the President since 2016. Go also worked as President Duterte’s executive assistant in Davao city.

Go said in past statements.

Go however made it clear that he will not be a rubber stamp of the administration stating that the President has always respected the independence of the legislative branch.

Go vowed to continue to support President Duterte’s agenda to fulfill his promise of providing a better future for the next generation.

“Kilala ko po si Pangulong Duterte for the past 21 years…

Go believes that the law did not intend for the three branches of the government to be exclusive of one another.  He believes that the intention was to establish a balance of power to achieve a single purpose—that of the welfare of the Filipino people.

He assured the people that he will continue to support President Duterte’s campaign against criminality, corruption, and illegal drugs, among others.

Nandito ako para maging tulay,” Go said, fulfilling one of his campaign promises to be the bridge to President Duterte and to the interest of the public.

Go’s legislative agenda, apart from the three-pronged campaign against corruption, criminality and illegal drugs, include the creation of the Department for OFW concerns as well as the improvement in the delivery of health services through the institutionalization of the Malasakit Centers.

Among others, Go is pushing for a law that would enable the establishment of Malasakit Center in more provinces and strategic urban centers in the country and allow as well for the continuation of the program even after the term of President Duterte.

Based on Go’s idea, the Malasakit Center is a continuing program of the administration seeking to make it easier and faster for indigent patients to avail of medical and financial assistance from the government by bringing together in one room all concerned agencies such as the DOH, DSWD, PCSO, and Philhealth.

“Priority ko po ang health. Napakadami nating kababayang nangangailangan ng mabilisang tulong pangmedikal, mahirap magkasakit. Tignan ninyo po ‘yung kalagayan nila sa hospital, nakahilera po sa labas,” Go said.

Go is also pushing for the creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience to scale-up the country’s resiliency and preparedness when it comes to natural calamities and man-made disasters.

He also plans to push for the passage of the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials which, among others, will  provide better compensation and benefits for the barangay officials, including the Barangay Health Workers, often called the “guardians of the nation’s health.”

He said the Filipino people can always rely on him to bring to President Duterte’s attention any of their concerns for the public good.

“Wala po kaming ibang hangarin ni Pangulong Duterte kundi kabutihan ng bawat Pilipino dahil mahal namin kayo,” Go said.

Other priorities under Go’s legislative agenda include programs for agriculture, education, housing, long-term sports development, fire protection and prevention, localized peace talks, barangay welfare, and improved benefits for senior citizens.
