Former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go today called for speedy justice for the killing of AKO BICOL party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe who, along with his security, was shot to death by still unknown assailants Saturday afternoon in Daraga, Albay.
Go also condemned what he called as a “dastardly act,” saying it has no place in a peace-loving society like ours.
What is even more unfortunate, according to Go, was that Batocabe and his bodyguard were killed shortly after a gift-giving activity for senior citizens and persons with disability in the spirit of the holiday season.
Go express his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cong. Rodel Batocabe.
According to Police investigators, Batocabe was attacked by unidentified gunmen at around 3 p.m. Saturday, just as he was about to get in his vehicle after the gift-giving event in Barangay Burgos in Daraga. Batocabe is running for Daraga mayor in the May 2019 elections.
“Dapat mabilisang malutas ang kasong ito. The president has reiterated that there is no room for violence leading to the 2019 elections,” Go stressed.
Go noted that Cong. Batocabe was one of the proponents in establishing a Malasakit Center in Legazpi, Albay. The Malasakit Center was established to house together various government agencies, such as the DOH, DSWD, Philhealth, PAGCOR, and PSCO to make it easier for indigent and disadvantaged patients to avail themselves of medical and financial assistance from the government.
“We shared the same advocacy for helping the poor and prioritizing the need for quality healthcare especially for indigent patients. We will make sure that justice is served and his legacy as a brilliant legislator, committed public servant and dedicated family man will continue,” Go said. ###
