Bureau of Corrections director Ronald dela Rosa said that convicted kidnapper Jovito Palparan is not given a special treatment despite his status as a retired general.
Palparan, who was transferred to the National Bilibid Prison Wednesday, is said to be staying inside a cell together with all other inmates of the maximum security cell.
In a chance interview Friday evening in Davao City, dela Rosa said that since Palparan was meted with reclusion perpetua (life imprisonment) he will be incarcerated at the maximum security cell together with other hardened criminals.
He assured the public that they will not be giving any special treatment to Palparan despite his stature being a retired general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Judge Alexander Tamayo of Branch 15 of the Bulacan Regional Trial Court sentenced Palparan on Sept. 17 to life imprisonment for the kidnapping of University of the Philippines students Karen Empeño and Sherlyn Cadapan in 2006.
The two women were never seen again.
