Go’s advice to youth: Focus on serving others

BULACAN — Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go today advised the youth to “find their place in the world” and focus on what they can do for people instead of what they can get.

“Una, hanapin ninyo ang lugar ninyo sa mundo. Maraming kahulugan at batayan ang tagumpay,” Go said in speech at the Bulacan State University’s Mid-Year Commencement Exercises.

(First, find your place in the world. Success has many meanings and standards.)

“Isipin sana ninyo hindi ang makukuha ninyo sa mundo kung hindi ang maibibigay ninyo rito. Hindi kailangang nasa gitna o itaas upang masabing matagumpay,” he added.

(Do not think of what you can get from the world but what you can give. Success isn’t measured by whether you’re in the middle or on top.)

Go urged the students to follow the example of the Duterte administration which focuses on providing free services to the poor, particularly the Malasakit Centers that are currently being put up nationwide.

The Malasakit Center is the one-stop shop program of President Rodrigo Duterte to hasten the delivery of medical services and give poor patients access to free medicines.

Under the program, patients are assisted in availing themselves of the services and financial assistance provided by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the Philippine Amusement and Games Corporation (PAGCOR), Department of Health (DoH) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Go said a Malasakit Center will be set up in Bulacan next month, following the successful launch at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City and Ospital ng Palawan in Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan.

Other Malasakit Centers are located in Cebu, Tacloban, Iloilo, and Davao. There is also a center at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila.

“May advocacy po ako, itong Malasakit Center. Plano ko pong ilagay rin dito sa Bulacan Provincial Hospital. Nag-usap na ho kami ni Governor, at maglalagay kami dito anytime soon, next month, at ila-launch po namin,” Go added.

(I have an advocacy, the Malasakit Center. I plan to put up here in Bulacan Provincial Hospital. I spoke with Governor [Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado] and we will put it up here anytime soon. We will launch it some time next month.)

In his speech, Go also promised to give gifts to the oldest and youngest graduates of the university.

In an ambush interview after the event, Go said the government will bring a sports program from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to Bulacan State University.

“Mayroon tayong programa mula sa Philippine Sports Commission. Kung mayroon silang mga kailangang sports equipment, since government school or university naman ito, pwede naming suportahan,” he said.

(We have a program from the Philippine Sports Commission. If they need sports equipment, we can support them since this is a government university.)
