Lakas-CMD may forge alliance with Hugpong ng Pagbabago

House Deputy Speaker Prospero Pichay, Jr. on Monday bared that his political party, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, is eyeing to have an alliance with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional party of presidential daughter and incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio.

Pichay also said the Lakas-CMD may field former Rep. Martin Romualdez and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla for next year’s senatorial race.

Hugpong ng Pagbabago was put up by Mayor Duterte to support President Rodrigo Duterte’s governance. Pichay affirmed that they are definitely pursuing such direction to forge an alliance with Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

“If we have the chance, why not?” said Pichay.

Pichay said everyone is invited to form an alliance with Lakas-CMD. “Probably what you saw last week, you saw the senatorial candidates taking off. It was a multi-party oath taking,” he said.

On the possible return of former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Lakas-CMD, Pichay said there is no need to exert extra effort to win her back.

“I’m sure that her heart is with Lakas,” said Pichay.

Meanwhile, Pichay said during the Ugnayan sa Batasan forum that Lakas-CMD is planning to put up a few candidates for the 2019 senatorial race. “Maybe two or three and maybe adopt some candidates,” he said

While the party has not decided yet, Pichay said its senatorial bets may include  former Rep. Martin Romualdez and Sen. Ramon Revilla. “We can even tap also Bong Revilla, because, he can still run, he is qualified to run,” he said.

On House Speaker Arroyo’s statement that there is no more time for charter change, Pichay says he believes that what is lacking is the time to convince the senators.

“That’s true because charter change, we can really tackle it if the senators are willing. But if the senators are not willing, then there’s definitely no time for charter change. Even if it will be five years or ten years from now,” said Pichay.

Pichay said the fact that the senators are not yet willing to vote separately, means that they are not convinced that Constituent Assembly entails voting as one. “I am calling on the senators to have an open mind…to think about what is good for the country,” said Pichay./ Novel Paller
