Resigned Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte has officially joined the regional political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago during the group’s Davao convention today, August 17.

In an earlier statement, the presidential son gave his support to HNP which is headed by his sister and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“I strongly support Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the regional political party founded by my sister, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

I believe in the principles of HNP and its aspirations to establish a strong and competitive Davao Region resonate significantly with many political leaders.

As I join HNP today, I also commit to its advocacies and determined resolve to support President Rody and push for the fulfillment of the Duterte administration’s plans and programs for the country and the Filipino people,” Paolo Duterte said.

The presidential son also said that he is willing to go back to politics if the people still wanted him to serve.

“I will go back to public service if the people of Davao City need my services. But there are many other ways to serve the Dabawenyos and our dear city — being in politics is just one of them. And if I can serve best through politics, it would be my pleasure to be of service to you and to our city — just like before,” he said.

The eldest son of President Rodrigo Duterte is a member of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party founded by President Duterte back in 1998.

Paolo Duterte joins younger brother, Sebastian, and thousands others who profess their allegiance to the HNP that recently had an alliance with 9 other political groups from both local and national.
