Court of Appeals Associate Justice Jose Reyes Jr. has been appointed as the new Supreme Court Justice replacing retired justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.
Special Assistant to the President Christopher Bong Go said Justice Reyes’ oathtaking will take place on Monday, August 13.
Reyes is cureently the fourth most senior member of the Appelate Court.
Reyes studied law at San Beda College, the alma mater of the president.
Reyes is Duterte’s fifth appointment to the 15-member Supreme Court after assuming the presidency in mid-2016.
Prior to his appointment to the CA in 2003, Reyes served as Pasig City Metropolitan Trial Court and Rizal Regional Trial Court.
Reyes penned the CA decision that led the Prieto-Rufino families to vacate the Mile Long property in Makati City in favor of government.
