Last August 1, we received a tragic report about what happened to one of our Ka-Grab driver-partners, Mr. Ananias Antigua. Paranaque police found the lifeless body of Mr. Antigua inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds on the evening of July 31.
Since we learned about the incident, Grab, upon request of the authorities, immediately submitted relevant information to support the ongoing investigation. We will continuously cooperate with the authorities to give justice to the Antigua Family. We respect the privacy of the family and they are assured that Grab will extend the support they need in this time of grief.
Ananias Antigua will be truly missed, he was part of Grab family.
We strongly condemn any act that puts our driver-partners and passengers at risk. We are continuously doing tech enhancements to ensure safety of both drivers and passengers.
Since the incident that involved good Samaritan driver Junjie Maquidato happened, we have integrated an in-app emergency or SOS button. In times of distress, this button will directly connect passengers and drivers to Philippine National Police’s 911 and other emergency hotlines, as well as notify emergency contacts.
We have also implemented stricter account verification process for passengers. Close to 100,000 unverified accounts were already deactivated.
More thab 5,000 drivers from Grab were were trained by the PNP and were deputized as road marshals. Grab has also partnered with Red Cross, MMDA, and the Highway Patrol Group for Road Safety.
As we continue with our measures towards safety, crimes may still happen. We encourage our driver-partners and passengers to always be vigilant, use the in-app emergency features and report incidents to Grab right away.
