Amid the six-month shutdown of Boracay due to the cleanup drive, affected workers and residents have now received financial grants from the government.

Sec. Bong Go of the Office the Special Assistant to the President assisted Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu who both led the releasing of salary employment assistance to the displaced and suspended workers.

The DOLE and DENR also distributed Landbank cash card to displaced formal workers, and turned over livelihood worth P1-million check for the Association of bankeros, MASBOI Sailboat Multipurpose Cooperative.

The turnover was held at Barangay Manoc-Manoc in Boracay on July 8, 2018.

Meanwhile, Sec. Go distributed grocery packs donated by the Pilipinong May Puso Foundation.

After the turnover of financial grants, Sec. Go inspected the area that is now undergoing overhaul after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered its closure after the island was flagged for excessive pollution.

Despite the closure, Sec. Go, in his message, expressed that once it reopens, it will return to its best condition which will captivate foreign and local tourists alike.
