A contributor to the Central Luzon monthly publication The Media Messenger and chairperson of the board of the Nueva Ecija chapter of the Central Luzon Media Association, Manuel G. Lacsamana, was gunned down before midnight Saturday night, June 23, along Mabini Street in Cabanatuan City. The victim reportedly was able to drive some distance after he was shot but eventually died from his wounds.
Reports reaching the NUJP indicate that Lacsamana’s murder may be more connected to his activities as a major property developer in Nueva Ecija. Nonetheless, he was associated with both a media outfit and a media organization.
Lacsamana’s killing closely followed the killing of a radio station employee in Marawi City at around six to seven o’clock Saturday night. Mr. Jessie M. Cano, a long time utility worker of government radio station DXSO was shot dead while on his way home to Aggie Village in Barangay Cadayonan, MSU Campus, Marawi City. According to the police, he was shot on his back with a .9mm calibre gun a mere ten meters away from his home.
The NUJP calls on the Philippine National Police as well as other government agencies to investigate these killings with dispatch with the end view of solving these violent crimes and bringing justice to the victims as soon as possible.
