Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos is entertaining the thought of a coalition with the regional political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in the event her family decides to seek for a senatorial seat come 2019 election.
In a press conference at The White House Fusion Cuisine and Wine Lounge here in Davao City Friday, June 22, Marcos said that since it is impossible for them to be accommodated by the administration party PDP-Laban there is a high probability that her political party, Nacionalista Party (NP), would coalesce with Mayor Duterte’s HNP.
“Tutal NP na kami ngayon, so might as well coalesce with HNP,” Marcos said.
The governor revealed that she is set to meet with Mayor Duterte on Monday during the mass oathtaking of barangay captains here in Davao City.
Marcos however clarified that nothing is absolute for the time being. She said that even her candidacy for senator is not yet definite as they are waiting for the result of the Comelec recount for the vice presidency.
What is definite, Marcos said, is that her younger brother Bongbong, would not be running for senator not until the recount is final. She admitted that without Bongbong, she is the only viable option, at the moment, for the senatorial race.
Imee lamented how her sister, Irene, continue to shun politics. She said that even the younger generation of the Marcoses are more keen on having private lives than dabble on politics.
