A barangay kagawad who is said to be a member of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago political party headed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was shot and killed by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen in Carmen, Davao del Norte exactly a week after a journalist was also killed in broad daylight in the same province.
The latest fatality is identified as 65-year old Santos Samoranos, barangay kagawad and a resident of Purok Lasuerte, Barangay Lapaz in Carmen town.
According to the police, Samoranos was shot dead around ten in the morning Thursday, June 14, along the provincial road in Sitio Kabangcalan, Barangay Sto. Niño.
The vicitm was said to be riding on motorcycle when two unidentified male suspects suddenly appeared and shot the victim several times.
Samoranos sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his body and head and was brought by the Municipal Rescuer Ambulance to Carmen District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician Dr. Robert C Pascual.
Last June 7, veteran journalist Dennis Denora was also killed by unidentified gunmen in Panabo City on broad daylight.
